The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) launched a joint attack on the Lone Khin Village Police Station in Hpakant Township, Kachin State, yesterday, KIA spokesman Colonel Naw Bu said.
The military situation is tense as the junta forces have been advancing in the first week of June to regain positions they lost in Hpakant.
“The main thing is to stay where Division 33 is and move around,” Colonel Naw Bu said.
Division 33, based in Sagaing City, is also deployed in Hpakant. The junta’s hundreds of troops fought fierce battles with the KIA in May and June when they tried to enter the Hpakant area through a mine.
On June 10, locals wrote on social media that the junta forces had burned down bulldozers and earthmoving vehicles in the Hpakant area.
On June 4 and 5, Local media reported that the military council troops had burned down the excavators and earthmoving vehicles of companies operating in the mining blocks in Kutthaw and Mazupyang.
In Kachin State, military tensions between the military council and the KIA remain high in Hpakant and Bhamo.
However, the KIA has stopped its offensive. Currently, the Chinese side is pressuring the military to cease fire to stabilize the border, but Colonel Naw Bu told the BBC that there is no immediate plan to stop.
