Fierce fighting near Kyaukphyu Police Battalion No. 32

Fighting between the Arakan Army (AA) and the military council forces near the 32nd Police Battalion in Kyaukphyu Township, Rakhine State, continued into the morning of June 11, military sources told the BBC.

The AA-led coalition forces have captured the village of Pyayin Kay, located at the foot of the mountain, and are now advancing towards the area around the 32nd Police Battalion, located on the hill.

“The AA has stepped up its offensive again in the first week of June. The military council has also suffered heavy losses,” said an AA military source.

The military council forces have been reinforced by sea and air from Sittwe due to the military tension in Kyaukphyu.

The military council has been continuously reinforcing its forces since the evening of June 10.

Just yesterday, the AAK suddenly attacked the military council camp on Kankaw Island, located more than a mile from the regional military command headquarters in Sittwe, and set two armored vehicles on fire, a military source said.

Neither the AA nor the military council had issued any statement on the clashes as of 3 p.m. today.
